Folk Art Guild fire destroys barn in Middlesex

At around one pm Tuesday there was a fire at the Rochester Folk Art Guild on Upper Hill Road in Middlesex. A barn that contained a wood shop, records storage and several computers caught fire likely from a spark from within a dust collection system. The Middlesex and Rushville fire departments responded and soon called for mutual aid from Benton, Branchport, Naples, Potter and Penn Yan. The fire was contained to the originating structure There were several structures very nearby. All were protected while the barn was extinguished. The barn is likely a total loss however some of the contents were saved on the bottom floor. The Folk Art Guild is a mostly self sufficient community that has been around since the early 1960’s.
