The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) regional office today announced that Route 34 will be closed on Saturday August 18, 2007 in the City of Auburn, Cayuga County. The closure will beginat or about 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, and will remain in place until work is completed, at or about 3:00 p.m. on Monday August 20th. The closure is necessary to allow Fingerlakes Railway to replace a railroad crossing. Motorists will be detoured along the Route 5 and 20 Arterial to Route 38, from there to Turnpike Road, and then along Turnpike Road back to Route 34. Variable message signs have been installed on Route 38 toalert area motorists of the upcoming construction activity, and detour signs will be posted along the detour route. Motorists should avoid the area if possible or seek alternate routes during this closure, and should use extra caution when driving through the area and along the detour route.
