Schuyler County Chamber of Commerce officials secured an hour with NYS Governor Eliot Spitzer prior to the Centurion Boats at the Glen NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race at Watkins Glen International this Sunday.Chamber President Cynthia Kimble, Chamber Board members, County Officials, representatives from Cornell Cooperative Extension, SCOPED and the Seneca Lake Wine Trail shared breakfast with Governor Spitzer at Watkins Glen State Park before the Governor attended the biggest outdoor sporting event in the state – the NASCAR event at the Glen.Topics discussed focused on the county’s need for a new Visitor Center to adequately greet the 1.5 million+ annual visitors to the State Park, the race track, and Seneca Lake and its wineries. Also on the agenda was the tremendous economic impact of the racetrack on the county and region as well as the collaborative work ethic of the leaders of the Schuyler County community. The potential collaboration to build a new visitor center between the Chamber, Finger Lakes National Forest, the Watkins Glen State Park and the Seneca Wine Trial was also of interest to the Governor.“We feel very lucky to have Governor Spitzer spend so much time with us on such a busy day,” said Kimble following the Sunday meeting. “He was attentive and, I believe, really got a good feel for some of the unique issues we face as a small county including the need for a new visitor center.”For information or photos contact the Schuyler County Chamber of Commerce at (607) 535-4300 or email [email protected].
