4th of July flare sale to light-up Cayuga Lake

The Women’s Community Building Flare Sale is underway, helping to light up Cayuga Lake (or your backyard) on the Fourth of July. For the 37th year, proceeds from the flare sale will benefit the Building and the many community groups that meet there.At dusk on July 4th flares are lighted all along the lakeshore. Flares can be purchased at the Women’s Community Building, 100 West Seneca Street, from member organizations, and from the local businesses that are supporting the Women’s Community Building: the Boat Yard Grill, Curves For Women in Lansing, Finger Lakes Marina at Myers Point, Ithaca Agway, Ithaca Yacht Club, Johnson’s Boat Yard, Ludgate Farms, Pete’s Grocery, Pyramid Mall, Shortstop Deli, Trumansburg Shursave, and West Shore Gas and Groceries. Flares are $4 each or three for $10.The federated organizations that operate the Women’s Community Building as a community center support women and children, education, and the arts. The Women’s Community Building is also home to the Service League’s used clothing store, the Human Services Coalition, and other non-profit organizations. It is the site of the annual Sister 2 Sister workshop for middle school girls, the Rotary Club’s Election Day pancake breakfast, and many other community and private events.In addition to the annual lighting of the lake, the flares can be used to light up your lawn or driveway for your own Fourth of July display, or kept in your car, house, or boat for emergencies.
