Seneca County officials are warning seniors to be aware of abusive and aggressive sales tactics revolving around the marketing of Medicare Advantage plans.According to County Attorney Steven Getman, reports have surfaced in New York State of salespeople intimidating seniors into buying health coverage plans they have not fully explained and misleading seniors with the guise that their private health plans are a part of Medicare.The result of these tactics is that some seniors may feel pressured into purchasing a policy that is not of benefit to them and may replace coverage they already have that is working well for them, Getman said.The plans often include hidden fees not covered by insurance and a limited network of doctors included in the plan.According to Getman, the Seneca County Office for the Aging is available to help seniors understand Medicare rules and many other health insurance issues.For assistance with the Medicare plans, call the Senior Citizens’ Help Line at (800) 342-9871 or locally at (315) 539-1769.
