William Smith College will host the 2007 NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse

William Smith College will host the 2007 NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Semifinals and Championship at McCooey Field on Saturday, May 19, and Sunday, May 20. This is the first time William Smith has hosted the Division III Women’s Lacrosse Championship and the 18th national championship event Hobart and William Smith Colleges have hosted since 1977.On Saturday, Franklin & Marshall College will face Gettysburg College in the first semifinal at 11:30 a.m. Middlebury College will square off with Salisbury University in the second semifinal at 2:30 p.m. The championship is scheduled for noon on Sunday and will be televised by CSTV.The four squads have combined for 23 championship weekend appearances. Gettysburg (1), Middlebury (7), and Salisbury (1) have all reached the championship game, but only the Panthers have earned a national championship (5).For two student-athletes, the weekend will serve as a homecoming of sorts. Gettysburg first-year defender Emily Gaffney hails from Skaneateles and graduated from Skaneateles High School, while Salisbury junior midfielder Allison Sofranko is a native of Lafayette and graduated from Lafayette High School.
