Syracuse’s season basically ended in Amherst on Saturday. The Orange will have their first losing season since 1975 and will not participate in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1982.The game ended with a flurry of penalties on Syracuse including the ejection of SU’s Steve Brooks for unsportsmanlike conduct.Doc Schneider made a career high 19 saves for UMass. UMass improves to 7-6. SU is 5-7 with a game with Colgate next week in the Dome left on its schedule.
