Each year the Soil & Water Conservation District of Wayne County provides tree and shrub seedlings to the public as a way to promote “backyard conservation” across Wayne County. Orders are taken from January through April and tree seedlings are purchased and distributed during the last week of April. This year just over 25,000 seedlings were distributed. Trees include hardwood species such as Black Cherry, Eastern Redbud and Red Oak. Evergreen species include: Canadian Hemlock, Blue Spruce, White Pine, Douglas Fir and many other species. The program entitled, “Forever Green Tree Program” not only promotes backyard conservation, but also helps to reforest Wayne County in hopes of keeping our area “Forever Green”. For more information on next years program you may contact the Soil & Water Conservation District at (315) 946-4136.
