Support The Troops in Waterloo this Memorial Day

Waterloo, the Birthplace of Memorial Day, will Support theTroops during its annual Celebrate Commemorate event. The celebrationof freedom will be May 25-27. The three day celebration will l feature ajam-packed schedule of music, a car show, a parade, arts and crafts,Civil War encampments, a Civil War ball, fireworks , and other familyevents. The complete schedule is available at www.waterloony.com.To show Support for the Troops, the committee will tie the ribbons onpoles throughout the village business district. The public is invitedto help prepare for Celebrate Commemorate by tying yellow supportribbons on their homes, cars, etc. Individuals may purchase ribbons for$5 each at Nugent Hardware.”We hope to see thousands of yellow ribbons throughout the village,”said Celebrate Commemorate co chair Jane Shaffer. “Regardless of youropinion of the war, we all should support our gallant men and women inuniform, and our veterans.”Organizations are invited to sell the ribbons at $5 each. Theorganization will earn $1 for each ribbon it sells. To register as aseller, contact Anne Cassim at Cassim Farm, 315-339-295, or BillSigrist at Nugent Hardware, 315-539-3251. Sales should be completed byMay 11 to allow for delivery.The Celebrate parade will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26. The public isinvited to participate. There will be a special section for families andfriends of the military to march. To participate, contact KaarenGerlach, parade co chair, at 315-539-2927.The parade committee also is seeking five individuals to march at thehead of the parade carrying the flags of the five branches of service.The individuals may be veterans or a representative of a veteran. Tovolunteer, contact Doris Wolf at 315-539-8302.The Celebrate Commemorate committee meets monthly at 7 pm on the firstWednesday of the month at the Seneca County Chamber of Commerce offices.New volunteers are welcome.The solemn commemoration of the service and sacrifice of active dutysoldiers and veterans will be May 30, the date Memorial Day always isobserved in Waterloo. The commemoration is sponsored by the village’sAmerican Legion and VFW.
