Monday’s blowing and drifting snows led to white out conditions throughout the Finger Lakes, causing dozens of accidents, and at least one death. An unidentified woman had stopped her car on Routes 5 and 20 in the Town of Hopewell shortly before 11 Monday morning because of whiteout conditions. A tractor trailer, traveling in the same direction, began to jack knife as it approached the woman’s car. She and her car were struck by the tractor trailer. The tractor trailer continued on and struck a vehicle owned by 51-year old Steven Schrader of Bloomfield. Schrader had pulled over to help the elderly woman with her car. He was struck by flying debris and suffered a shoulder injury. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released.
