Ithaca College Announces 2006 IC Choice Winners

Eight individuals and three groups were selected to receive the latest IC Choice Awards at Ithaca College. Begun six years ago, the awards program was developed to recognize and reward employees for their outstanding contributions to the college community. All staff members are eligible for this honor. Candidates may be nominated by a supervisor, coworker, faculty member, or student. A panel of five staff volunteers reviews the nominations and selects award recipients based on the criteria of initiative, commitment, support, and accomplishment. Individual winners receive $1,000; each member of a winning group receives $250. The winners of this year’s awards are listed below. For more information about them and the awards program, visit www.ithaca.edu/hr/compensation/icChoice/round8.php Individual Awards* Adam Baker, web, systems and departmental services, was recognized for his extraordinary efforts and leadership in creating a new video that the Office of Admission is using an informational tool during open houses, receptions, and other admission-related events. * Mike Bovi, bookstore, was recognized for his many years of service to the College as the director of college stores. Through his leadership, the college bookstore made many advances and established a successful team that makes customer service top priority. * Debra Burris, physical therapy, was recognized for her initiative and vigilance during the monumental task of moving the Department of Physical Therapy’s graduate program to its new location in Rochester. * Daniel Cleveland, health science and human performance, was recognized for his initiative in moving and organizing 6,000 archived graduated student files to a secure location. His assistance during faculty office moves over the summer demonstrated his generosity and thoughtfulness. * Lorie Holmes-VanDusen, registrar, was recognized for her effort, patience, and vision during the implementation of the Homer project, a comprehensive student information system. * Lisa Maurer, counseling center, was recognized for extraordinary dedication to the college’s institutional goal of increasing diversity on campus. Through her efforts, the college was included on the “100 Best LGBT-Friendly Colleges & Universities” list from over 600 colleges and universities nationwide. * Mary Tomaselli, staff development, was recognized for her ongoing commitment to the college’s Leadership program, which is aimed at the professional and personal development of Ithaca College employees.* Lori Watkins, advancement services, was recognized for her leadership role in the six-month-long effort of organizing the launch of the college’s current comprehensive campaign, which included a visit by Bob Iger, CEO of the Walt Disney Corporation. Group Awards* CNS Retro-fit Lighting TeamThis team was recognized for its efforts in retro-fitting the lighting fixtures in the Center for Natural Sciences building to an energy efficient ballast and lamp, which will save the College thousands of dollars in electric costs.Team members: William Bartnik, George Lampila, Brian McGavin, Roderick Martin, Marc Passalugo, John Sill, William Steele, Mark Swanhart and David Walters. * Homer Implementation TeamThis team was recognized for its extraordinary efforts in ensuring the successful implementation of Homer, a comprehensive student information system.Team members: Steve Bellardini, Jose Castro, Marco Cestaro, Benjamin Costello, Chris Davie, Amy Dembrosky, Sally Espinosa, Claire Ferris, Michael Ferris, Lorie Holmes-Vandusen, Mary Knapp, Jerry McConnell, Jill Moreland, Wendy Penfold, Jennifer Richardson, Buddy Stetz, Jeremy Taylor, Todd Van Valkenburg, Winsome Wade-Compton and Xin Zhang. * SmartCall Implementation TeamThis team was recognized for its implementation of the SmartCall Automated Phonathon System, which has increased the phonathon program’s efficiency, saved the college significant resources and increased generated income.Team members: Julie Andrews, Anita Costa, Michele Vineyard and Alyssa Robinson.
