291 Days Until Elections, the Race For Seneca Sheriff Is On

Election day is still some 10-months away, but that not stopping an Ovid man from throwing his hat into the race for Seneca County Sheriff. Lester Hayward-a registered Republican-announced this week he is seeking the Sheriff’s job. Hayward- in a full page advertisement in the “Seneca County Area Shopper” says he believes he has the experience, knowledge, dedication, ability, and ethics to lead the Seneca County Sheriff’s Department. Hayward is a 21-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Department, he retired from the department in 1999. He is a former Ovid Town Board member. Incumbent Sheriff Leo Connolly-also a Republican- took office 3-years ago after Sheriff Tom Fox retired to take a job in law enforcement in Albany. In 2003, Connolly defeated two other candidates for the sheriff’s job-Bob Steele and Ken Dresser. No word yet is Connolly, Steele or Dresser will seek the Sheriff’s job this November.
