It was a clean sweep for the two central Finger Lakes high school football teams in the Carrier Dome on Saturday. The Geneva Panthers won the class B State Championship while the Auburn Maroons captured the Class AA State Championship.Auburn needed overtime to defeat Monroe-Woodbury 27-26 behind Darnell Murphy’s 3 touchdown passes and 54 rushing yards.Geneva had a much easier time in their title game against Albany Academy, winning 33-7. The Panthers scored 19 points in the second quarter that included 2 rushing scores by Brian Fowler. Andy Torruella had a 45 yd interception return as well in the 2nd quarter.A third team from the Finger Lakes region also captured a state title this weekend. Corning-East defeated Cornwall-Green 27-14 in Class A to cap off an undefeated season at 13-0.Congratulations to Geneva, Auburn and Corning-East!
