Career Options In Sports Fields at IC

Area students and others interested in working in the sport industry are invited to the annual “Careers in Sport Symposium” being held at Ithaca College on Saturday, Oct. 28. Ithaca College graduates and friends who work in the industry will participate in panel discussions on a variety of topics related to jobs in the field, including law, marketing, television, media, international sports and sales. All events are free and open to the public.Delivering the keynote address, “Sports: The Vanishing Domain for the Entrepreneur,” will be Barry Mendelson ’65, president of the Mendelson Entertainment Group, a company that produces live and televised events. His talk will be held at 9:30 a.m. in Textor 101.Mendelson’s own career in sport has included posts as radio announcer for the New York Giants and New York Jets; vice president of the Boston Celtics; director of radio, television and advertising for the Los Angeles Forum (now Staples Center), the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Los Angeles Kings; general manager and executive vice president of the New Orleans Jazz; and executive vice president for sports, music and variety programming at Madison Square Garden.A series of concurrent breakout sessions will follow from 10:30–11:20 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. in the Hill Center.
