Senator Nozzolio To Be Honored

The New York State Correctional Officers and Police BenevolentAssociation (NYSCOPBA) has named Senator Michael F. Nozzolio (R-Fayette)its “Legislator of the Year”.“This is a truly great honor and I thank NYSCOPBA for this recognition,”said Senator Nozzolio. “Our correctional officers walk the toughest beatin law enforcement and it is a pleasure to fight on the behalf of the bravemen and women who put their lives on the line to protect our communitiesand families. As Chairman of the Senate Crime Victims, Crime andCorrections Committee, I remain committed to aggressively representing theinterests of New York’s correctional officers.”Senator Nozzolio has sponsored legislation concerning correctional officersand their working conditions throughout his tenure in the Statelegislature. As the longtime Chairman of the Crime Victims, Crime andCorrections Committee, Senator Nozzolio has advocated for the constructionof additional maximum security prisons, has supported initiatives toincrease workplace safety for prison employees and secured state fundingfor equipment and communication upgrades in New York’s prisons. This year,Senator Nozzolio was successful in calling for the release of correctionalofficer pay raises and retroactive payments that were being delayed by theState Comptroller.Larry Flanagan, President of NYSCOPBA, said, “We are pleased to honorSenator Nozzolio as our Legislator of the Year for his leadership andstrong commitment to New York’s correctional officers.
