Cortland Main St. Music Series Coming

The Cortland Main St. Music Series kicks off the first in a series of six free Friday night Concerts on July 7. An Evening of Jazz with Charilie Bertini begins at 6 pm, in the parking lot next to the Market Place Mall in downtown Cortland. Mr. Bertini on trumpet will be accompanied by Dave Hanlon on drums, Dave Solazzo on keyboard and Mike Solazzo on bass. Charlie has been performing at the Downtown Music Series every year since its inception in 2002. He brings an entertaining, yet sophisticated style of jazz to his audience. Based out of Orlando, Florida, Charlie is a Cortland native. He has been the first trumpeter and musical director of the Clyde Beatty-Cole Bros. Circus and musical director for the Ringling Bros & Barnum & Bailey Circus. As a first-call trumpet player, he has backed performers like Al Martino, Mel Torme, Patti Page, Burt Bacharach, Henry Mancini, Johnny Mathis, and Ray Charles. He has played on network TV specials for Walt Disney World, Ringling Bros Circus, and several PBS music specials. His AppleJazz cable show from his 1995 AppleJazz concert was nominated for a CableAce Award for “Best Music Program For 1995”. As a recording artist, Bertini has five solo albums: the newly released APPLEJAZZ CLASSIC PERFORMANCES, OUT OF SEASON, APPLESASS, JEWELS, ACID DIXIE (on AppleJazz Records) and two Christmas albums, CHRISTMAS COOKIES, and FRESH BATCH (on Arbors Records). Charlie has recorded twelve albums with Bill Allred’s Classic Jazz Band and has produced fifty-five albums for other artists, with more in the works.
