Auburn’s $42.7 MILLION dollar budget for 2006-2007 includes a 9% tax rate increase and calls for laying off 27 employees. City Mananger John Salamone released the proposed budget to the city council last night. Salamone says without the layoffs- the tax rate increase would be 16%. Taking the biggest hit would be the public works department, they would loose 12 employees. Six police officers would also be cut, and the school resource officer program would be eliminated.
