Depot Fire Destroys Warehouse and Sheriff’s Equipment

An early morning fire at a warehouse at the former Seneca Army Depot has destroyed the building and equipment stored there by the Seneca County Sheriff’s Department.Lost in the fire were the Seneca County Sheriff’s Department’s patrol boat, dive trailer, underwater equipment, and an RV used as the department’s mobile command post. A complete inventory of the items lost in the fire is now being conducted.Seneca County Sheriff Leo T. Connolly says the fire swept though the building quickly. It was reported just after 3am. Three fire departments, Romulus, Varick and Fayette responded to the scene. The roof of the building collapsed. Connolly says the building is a total loss.The Seneca County Fire Investigation Team and NYS Office of Fire Prevention and Control investigators are searching for the cause of the fire.It’s the second devastating fire in Seneca County in less than a week. On January 27th fire destroyed the Lodi Highway Barn and equipment including two snowplows and a road grader. The damage from that fire is estimated at $1.5 million dollars.
