The Seneca Falls Village Planning Board last night heard plans for a new Dollar General Store at 20East Bayard Street, which is the parking lot of the Seneca Falls IGA Store. The new store would be built with it’s back wall against facing homes on Spring Street, and the stores entrance would face East Bayard Street. The Dollar Store would cover 9,000 square feet. A second 2,500 square foot retail store would be built between the Dollar General Store and the grocery store. The Planning board members did not vote on the project last night, it needs to first go before the Seneca Falls Village Zoning Board of Appeals. The project needs a variance allowing the building to be build close to the property line, and because the parking lot will have only 86 parking spaces for use by all three businesses, while it should have over 100-spaces. The project will also have to come up before the village’s Heritage Preservation Committee because it is within the Seneca Falls Historic District. The Zoning Board of Appeals is expected to discuss details of the project later next month. If the store is built, it would be the fourth dollar store in a six mile stretch of Seneca Falls and Waterloo.
