Jazz Tradition Continues in Hector in 2005

The Finger Lakes Jazz Fest will come back to life on September 17, 2005 at the Hector Fireman’s Field. After a 2-year hiatus, the Jazz Fest is scheduled to be bigger and better than ever, featuring a New Orleans headliner and several local and regional bands for a day of hot jazz, fiery food, and loads of fun. Friends, families, and lounge chairs are encouraged!Hailing from “the Big Easy”, the Charmaine Neville Band is a popular fixture at the colorful New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and clubs around New Orleans. Reviewers have called their shows electrifying, aerobic, explosive. Charmaine and the band mix the hypnotic with the dramatic. Charmaine herself has been described as a crowd magnet, a frisky dynamo, versatile, vivacious, technically impressive. Her talent for comedy, her rhythmic wizardry, her spontaneity, her vocal and dramatic range, all make for a spectacular, energetic, riveting presentation. But, there’s no overlooking the Finger Lakes talent featured at the Festival! The fantastic line-up consists of: Ed Clute’s Dixie Five Plus, Jack Bacon’s Morgan Street Stompers, Joe Cavallero’s Dixieland Band, Li’l Anne and Hot Cayenne, Ithaca Ageless Jazz Band and Djug Django. All this follows area high school jazz bands, starting the day off at 10:00 a.m. For those who want to get in on the action, there will be an open jam on Friday evening, September 16th – free to ticket holders and $5 for everyone else. Hector area wineries, restaurants, and vendors will line the “Bourbon Street” vendor area with beverages and food for purchase. The Hector Fire Department will offer its famous pancake breakfast on Saturday morning before the bands begin and smokin’ chicken BBQ throughout the day.Advance tickets for the Finger Lakes Jazz Fest are $30 for adults; $25 for students and seniors; $100 for family; kids under 12 are free.
