Two groups are suing the town of Skaneateles to prevent it from considering plans for the site of a former mansion. The Post-Standard reports many residents were upset when Lawrence Ruston tore down the mansion on his property on Skaneateles Lake. Now, Ruston wants to build an 11 home subdivision on the property. Two local groups filed suit December 30th, naming the town Planning Board, Code Officer Debbie Williams and Ruston and his wife. Williams signed the permit allowing Ruston to demolish the 1845 mansion December 20th. The Rustons’ attorney says the couple got a ruling from the state that the building was not historic before they were allowed to tear it down.
