Canandaigua Bucks Population Trend

State Comptroller Alan Hevesi says while most of upstate New York is losing population, Canandaigua has 33 perecent more residents than it did in 1950. Hevesi says Geneva and Rochester have both experienced declines of over 20 percent since then. Canandaigua officials tell the D & C the city’s proximity to Rochester and to Canandaigua Lake have helped it buck the statewide trend. They also cite the quality of life, availability of services and relatively low taxes.
