HWS Jazz Ensemble to offer free concerts

The Hobart and William Smith Colleges Jazz Ensemble will perform different charts in various styles at their concert at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, in the Geneva Room of the Warren Hunting Smith Library. The concert will be presented under the direction of music instructor Bob Barbuto on piano.Ensemble members include nine Hobart and William Smith Colleges students and one guest. They are Shawn Abernethy ’08 (bass, flute); John Colan ’08 (drums/percussion); Adrian Cowles (baritone sax); Warren Cramer ’07 (tenor sax); Sarah DeGray ’06 (vocals); Julius Ferraro ’08 (trumpet); John Kinne ’08 (trumpet); Jesse McConnell ’08 (drums/percussion); Peter Murphy ’08 (guitar) and Derek Smith ’07 (bass, violin).Concert selections will include different styles within the genre such as “Footprints” by Wayne Shorter, “Stella by Starlight” by Standard, “Moon Dance” by Van Morrison with vocalist Sarah DeGray and the Big Band era tune with a twist “Caravan.”The concert is free and the public is invited to attend.
