Quick work by Penn Yan police and firefighters early this morning helped to quickly bring a grocery store fire under control.Penn Yan firefighters were called to Morgan’s Grocery on Hamilton Street around 2am after village police, while on routine patrol, called in a report of heavy white smoke coming from the roof. The fire damaged the attic and ceiling and caused heavy smoke and water damage throughout the store. The ceiling had to be removed due to fire damage. The working structure fire brought mutual aid from Benton/Bellona, Dundee, Dresden and Branchport/Keuka Park fire departments as well as Penn Yan Ambulance personnel. No injuries were reported. No word on what may have sparked the fire. The investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
