A Seneca Falls man died late Wednesday night when his apartment house caught fire. The fire damaged a two family apartment home at 21 -and – 25 Walnut Street in Seneca Falls. Neighbors say flames were shooting out of the home as firefighters arrived on the scene. The flames were quickly knocked down, but the structure was full of smoke.Police and firefighters pulled a man from 21 Walnut and preformed CPR on him, but he did not survive.Neighbors say his wife was at work at the time of the fire. The man’s two teenage step children were at the fire scene. They do not live there. Finger Lakes 1.com is not revealing the man’s name until authorities release the information.The couple that lives on the other side of the apartment building (25 Walnut ) were sleeping when an off-duty police officer knocked on their door andhelped them from the burning building.Seneca Falls, Waterloo and Red Jacket firefighters were called to the sceen. North Seneca Ambulance, and the the Seneca County Sheriff’s Department assisted the Seneca Falls Police Department. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
