HUD Investigating Purchases

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will investigate how an Auburn landlord was able to purchase property in the city, despite owing 58 thousand dollars in back taxes. HUD officials say they might consider changing their policies to prohibit sales to property owners who are in arrears. Congressman Sherwood Boehlert wrote to HUD officials after hearing constituent complaints about the purchase of a vacant house by Pyramid Auto Group. The company has purchased eight other HUD properties, and owes back taxes on all of them.
