Hobart Alumnus to Appear on ‘Jeopardy!’

Hobart alumnus Tom Parker has been told for years by fellow classmate Ben Brown ’99 that he should try out for the television show “Jeopardy!” The opportunity came when the “Jeopardy!” producers held an audition in Parker’s home town, Providence, R.I. He passed the written exam, survived the mock game and was selected to be on the show this season. In September Parker traveled to Los Angeles to tape the show, which will air Dec 3.”The liberal arts education I received at HWS was definitely an asset on the show because of the broad range of information that contestants are quizzed on,” he said. Parker graduated from Hobart College in 1999 and was a classics major. He was also a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, and served on the Committee on Standards. For the last four years Parker has been working for a FOX television affiliate in Providence, but he left to work on a documentary for PBS.Parker alerted Hobart Dean Clarence Butler about his television debut on “Jeopardy!” When asked what made him go on the show, he responded, “I’ve always enjoyed the show and had for years been prodded by my friend Ben to get on the show.”The experience was fun and very exciting. “I had a great time,” said Parker, “Alex Trebek is a very cool and also a very funny person.”
