SFCC Golfers Retain Canal Cup

On a cold, blustery October Sunday the Seneca Falls Country Club and Silver Creek GC was the site of the second annual Canal Cup matches. The matches pit 12 of the top golfers from each course against each other in a Ryder Cup style competition over 36 holes of golf.The first 18 holes began at 7:30 am at the Seneca Falls Country Club. The front nine matches were alternate shot format and resulted in a 4-2 advantage for the defending champs from the SFCC. Silver Creek came storming back in the second matches, best-ball on the back nine and evened the score at 6-6 as the golfers headed accross town to Silver Creek for the afternoon matches.The SFCC took back control on the front nine at Silver Creek winning the 2-man scramble matches 4-2. From there they were able to secure the neccessary points in the 12 individual matches to eventually retain the Canal Cup for a second straight year.The SFCC team was led by Steve Hyde, Doug Brown and Tim Jones each with 3 1/2 points out of a possible 4. Also on the winning team was Pete Manzo, Ben Wong, Jimmy Williams III, Doc Hilimire, Jim Sinicropi, Wayne Stoutner, Hank Sandlas, Larry Hilimire and Jeff Panek.The SFCC team was captained by 2003 Club Champion Mark Hylwa while the Siver Creek squad was captained by Jeff Kapps.The Canal Cup, donated by Jack Stenberg will remain on display in the clubhouse at the SFCC for the 2004 season.www.senecafallscountryclub.comwww.silvercreekgc.com
