Bone Marrow Drive to Benefit Danny Wright

Danny Wright of Waterloo, NY was recently diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) and his doctors are currently looking for a bone marrow match – a vital step in hos recovery. Please join Danny and his wife Allison (Chiodo) and family in supporting a bone marrow donor drive on Saturday, September 13th from 10 am – 2 pm at St. Mary’s School Gymnasium in Waterloo, NY. What’s required of me as a donor? The day of the drive blood is taken by a simple finger prick to determine your bone marrow type and if you could be a potential match for Danny or anyone else in need of a transplant. If you are determined to be a suitable match you will be contacted at a later date for additional testing. If further tests determine you are a match you may be asked to donate marrow and potentially save Danny’s life. The testing process is fairly expensive and thus getting tested and put into the database is not free. There is a $65.00 charge to volunteer to cover these costs. We are hoping to drop that fee dramatically. Allison’s ultimate goal is to make this free for our volunteer donors. She has made great strides already in gathering generous donations to cover the expenses associated with testing. Contributions are greatly appreciated. Checks can be made payable to Allison Wright or Red Cross or National Marrow Donor Program and mailed directly to 1028 Hecker Road, Waterloo, NY 13165 or brought personally to the Bone Marrow Drive on September 13th. About AML AML is not inherited or contagious. It develops when there is a defect in the immature cells in the bone marrow. This form of leukemia occurs in all ages but more often in adults. For more detailed information on AML please log on to the official website at: http://www.marrow.org/medical/aml.html If you have any questions or would like more information please contact Allison (Chiodo) Wright at 315-539-5315 or Tess Bertino at 315-539-6136. We desperately need to find a bone marrow match for Danny so he can start generating his own healthy bone marrow. Danny, Allison and their two childres Hailey and Christopher thank you for taking the time to make this a priority.
