Waterloo Man Drowns in Cayuga-Seneca Canal

A Waterloo man died Saturday night after he jumped off a railroad bridge into the Cayuga-Seneca Canal. State Police continue their investigation into the death of 19-year old Jacob McDonald of 1893 Nine Foot Road. McDonald jumped from the bridge near Hyatt Road in Seneca Falls around 7:00 pm. He swam across the canal and was close to shore when he called out for help. Three friends walking on the bridge used a cell phone to call 911. Divers from Seneca and Cayuga counties recovered his body a couple of hours later in 20 feet of water. State Police were assisted by the Seneca County Sheriffs Department, Seneca Falls Police, fire personnel from Red Jacket, Seneca Falls, Cayuga, Union Springs and by the Onondaga Air One Medical Helicopter.
