Congressman Sherwood Boehlert is visiting the Finger Lakes Region today. This morning Boehlert spoke at a Geneva Chamber of Commerce breakfast. Boehlert told Ontario and Seneca County business leaders that he, and southern tier Congressman Amo Houghton, will gather bipartisan support from all New York lawmakers to keep the Canandaigua VA Hospital open. – Click here for video of Congressman Sherwood Boehlert (Part 1 – WMV 1.34 meg) Boehlert and Assemblyman Brian Kolb are now meeting with other lawmakers, VA hospital administrators, and Canandaigua residents to discuss how to keep the hospital open. The Canandaigua VA facility treats thousands of area veterans and employs about 800 people. Boehlert then travels to Seneca County where he is the special guest at a wine and cheese reception tonight at the Sewdish Hill Winery in Romulus. The reception is from 5:30 to 7:30, call 315-733-8825 for more details. While in Geneva, Boehlert also discussed NASA and the Space Shuttle investigation, the search for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, homeland security, the economy, and restated his position that the Cayuga-Seneca Indian Tribe has no sovereign rights in New York State.
